The challenge
Combat-medic teams in the field lacked quick access to soldiers' medical history. In high-stress situations, medics had to sift through paper-based records — increasing transcription errors during evacuations and delaying critical decisions.
Information was fragmented: vital signs, prior wounds, interventions taken, and identification were spread across paper documents that didn't survive field conditions or handoffs to evacuation teams.
The system needed to operate in low-bandwidth conditions with offline capability, while remaining HIPAA / GDPR-compliant for personal health data — and decentralized enough to resist single-point-of-failure attacks.
